Dr. Bazzan Comments on New Vitamin D Study
Most people are aware that good sources of vitamin D (milk, yogurt, eggs etc.) helps to keep our bones strong and healthy. But according to a Wilmington News Journal article, a lack of adequate vitamin D may lead to a greater risk for viruses and diseases.
According to the article, "scientists studying the vitamin D receptor -- a molecule found in certain cells within the body -- discovered it is responsible for the expression of about 900 genes in the body, equal to about 3 percent of the human genome."
Anthony Bazzan, MD, a physician in the Jefferson-Myrna Brind Center of Integrative Medicine, is quoted in the article as saying that "if a person is deficient in vitamin D, those genes may not be activated, putting them at greater risk of falling ill to a virus or disease." He goes on to say that even more immune-related disorders may be affected by vitamin D as well.
Find out what else Dr. Bazzan has to say about vitamin D in the Journal's "Newly in vogue, vitamin boosts body's defenses" article.
