The New Jefferson Vascular Center Offers Multi-disciplinary Approach to Treating Vascular Disease Under One Roof
The new Jefferson Vascular Center (JVC) at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital
offers an integrated, multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis,
management and treatment of vascular diseases (diseases of blood
vessels) and thrombotic (blood-clotting) disorders all under one roof.
Millions of adults in the United States develop thrombotic disorders
every year so having a state-of-the-art center with all the clinical
and diagnostic tools in one localized area provides the best possible
treatment options for patients.
Collaborative Experience
The
JVC incorporates Jefferson’s Division of Vascular and Endovascular
Surgery, Medical Vascular Service, and Vascular Ultrasound Radiology to
offer patients a collaborative approach to their vascular issues.
Using state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and minimally-invasive
treatment modalities, the JVC specializes in the treatment of:
- Blocked arteries of the neck, abdomen and legs that cause stroke and leg pain;
- Enlarged arteries (aneurysms) of the chest, abdomen, and legs that can rupture;
- Clotting disorders that cause blood clots in the legs or lungs;
- Varicose veins that cause leg pain;
- Diabetic foot wounds;
- Lymphedema; and
- Management and education in the use of blood thinners.
One Stop Shop
“Being
able to provide a one stop diagnosis and treatment experience for our
patients is ideal because vascular conditions and diseases are complex
and often involve more than one of the body’s systems at a time,” said
Paul DiMuzio, M.D., co-director. “With the new Jefferson Vascular
Center, patients will no longer have to go to different departments for
the various tests they will require. We have it all right
here.”
Patient-Centered Approach
“Vascular
diseases and thrombotic disorders are extremely common, affecting
people of all ages. In many cases, these diseases and disorders are
highly treatable or even preventable,” said Gino Merli, M.D.,
co-director. “We offer a patient-centric experience at the Jefferson
Vascular Center. We have uncomplicated the sometimes difficult to
navigate screening and treatment system by offering all of our services
in one spot. This unification of surgery and medicine under one center
will provide a much easier experience for our vascular patients.”
Expert Diagnostic Testing
“Vascular
ultrasound and noninvasive diagnostics are among the first steps to
establish the correct diagnosis and plan the proper treatments for
vascular patients,” said Laurence Needleman, M.D., co-director “These
tests are also ideal following treatment since they do not require the
use of radiation. Our technologists and physicians are among the most
experienced in the region and the country.”
The new Jefferson Vascular Center is located on the sixth floor of the Gibbon building in Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
