If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with a neurological disorder such as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, a brain tumor or an aneurysm, you want to find the right physicians with the expertise to devise the right treatment plan. That's what you will find at Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience. It is the only dedicated hospital for neuroscience in the Philadelphia region.
It's here that the most advanced treatment technologies, world-class specialists and leading-edge research come together. You can take comfort in knowing that Jefferson neurologists, neurosurgeons, radiologists, radiation oncologists and psychiatrists all work together to provide you with the best care possible.
Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience was the first in the Delaware Valley to offer such state-of-the-art technologies as fractionated stereotactic radiosurgery (also known as stereotactic radiotherapy); Gamma Knife; Shaped Beam Surgery™; minimally invasive neurosurgery utilizing a robotically controlled microscope; and NeuRx DPS™, an FDA-approved device that helps individuals with certain types of spinal cord injuries breathe on their own again.
In addition, Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience has launched Jefferson Expert Teleconsulting (JET), the region's first university-based high-tech mobile robotic system to treat time-sensitive neurovascular diseases including arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), brain aneurysms and stroke. Through JET, you can receive sophisticated medical care without having to travel long distances. When a Jefferson specialist on call uses a laptop to connect to the remote hospital you are at via the robot, our specialist is able to obtain a medical history by speaking directly with you and/or family members, examine you and determine what therapy is immediately needed, in real time, without delay. A decision is then made either to admit you to your local hospital's critical care unit or transfer you to the Jefferson Acute Stroke Center.
- Jefferson is ranked a Top Hospital for Epilepsy, Headache, Multiple Sclerosis, Neurology, Sleep Disorders, Spinal Cord Injury, Aging and Stroke by Philadelphia magazine.
- Our Hospital has Advanced Certification by the Joint Commission in Stroke (Primary Stroke Center) and is one of the few hospitals with a Level 1 Trauma Center and a federally designated regional spinal cord injury center.
- Jefferson neurosurgeons treat the largest combined volume of tumors, aneurysms and AVMs (arteriovenous malformations) in the Philadelphia region.
